Kiyus’ismon hilKuhku at the Chumash Indian Museum
The Nomad Two Worlds Foundation provided funds to the Chumash Indian Museum in Thousand Oaks, California, for sponsorship of the Kiyus’ismon hilKuhku (“We Gather the People”) event. Kiyus’ismon hilKuhku was an opportunity for Chumash representatives to promote and market their art and craft at the Sixth Annual Tribal Gathering. The event was designed to expand the public’s exposure not only to Chumash culture, but to other Californian and North American tribes and to their traditions and art forms. It also facilitated intra- and inter-tribal communication and artistic collaboration. The Tribal Gathering, which hosts an arts market, is the most important arts-based Native American cultural sharing event of the calendar year. It is an interactive endeavor between native communities, artists, and the public, incorporating storytelling, dance, and music through instructional sessions.
Jamie Okuma
The Nomad Two Worlds Foundation supported Shoshone Native American artist and fashion designer Jamie Okuma in her participation in Fashion Heat – a Native American Designer Fashion Show, produced by the Museum of Contemporary Native Arts (MOCNA) in Santa Fe. Fashion Heat celebrated and brought attention to a number of Native American artists who are integrating traditional art into fashion items.
Corey Webster aka Yung Nooky
The Nomad Two Worlds Foundation supported vocal artist Corey Webster through his participation in the American Repertory Theater internship program. During the program, Corey worked with sound designer Jonathan Dean during rehearsals and performances of Finding Neverland. In addition, Corey recorded a hip-hop track with celebrated rapper Taboo from the Black Eyed Peas, who himself claims Mexican-American and Shoshone heritage. Upon his return to Australia, Corey has mentored youth in music and is pursuing a career as a rapper and recording artist.
