Trama
Oscar Diggs è il mago di un piccolo circo di dubbia morale, che, stanco della propria condizione, fugge dal polveroso Kansas a bordo di una mongolfiera, ma imbattutosi in una tempesta e finendo catturato nell’occhio di un ciclone approda nel favoloso mondo di Oz. Qui si apre per lui un mondo di fama e felicità, finché un giorno non incontra tre streghe, Theodora, Evanora e Glinda, che non sono per nulla convinte del fatto che lui sia il potente mago che tutti pensano. Nonostante la sua riluttanza, Diggs viene coinvolto nei problemi di Oz e dei suoi abitanti, e avrà il compito di identificare le persone buone da quelle cattive prima che sia troppo tardi. Usando la sua inventiva Oscar riuscirà a trasformare se stesso nel grande e potente mago di Oz, oltre che in un uomo migliore.

Il film si basa sul famoso romanzo di L. Frank Baum Il meraviglioso mago di Oz ed è l’ideale prequel del film del 1939 Il mago di Oz.

Synopsis
When Oscar Diggs (James Franco), a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, is hurled away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz, he thinks he’s hit the jackpot—fame and fortune are his for the taking—that is until he meets three witches, Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams), who are not convinced he is the great wizard everyone’s been expecting. Reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late. Putting his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuity—and even a bit of wizardry—Oscar transforms himself not only into the great and powerful Wizard of Oz but into a better man as well.
The film is inspired by L.Frank Baum’s 1900 novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, and is the prequel to the 1939 film The Wizard of Oz.

The original soundtrack to Oz the Great and Powerful will be released by Walt Disney Records on March 5 2013
