My Life

If you want to see a lovely little town, watching the tv series My Life you will easily have an idea of how beautiful the panoramas are in Germany.

The tv program on air every day at 14.45 on canale 5, is set in Luneburg in the north of the country. Life is very calm at the Drei Konige, the most renowned hotel in Luneburg, and there are a lot of tourists visiting the nice little German town. In addition, important events often take place here. Near the hotel there is a beautiful villa; the Jansen household live here. Petra, mother of the family, is responsible for the household. She suddenly finds herself at a crossroads. Her husband is unfaithful to her with Miriam, her daughter’s best friend. She decides to accept a big change of life, and after several attempts she finds a new job in Hamburg, in a renowned hotel. Encouraged by her dear friend Alice to go to Paris, she meets by chance Nick Bergmann, her first love, and she realizes her strong feelings for him. He suddenly has to leave for Africa because of his job and he’ll have to stay there for a long while. He seems to be running from his wife Lynn, who suffers from mood changes and strong anxiety, following him with persistent calls to his mobile. She lives at the Drei Konige hotel, she’s a fragile woman and she ends up in several unforeseen events.

Afterwards Nick moves to Los Angeles because of his wife Lynn, who is convinced that he is having a relationship with Carmen, the girl who works at the Drei Konige; she can’t imagine that the woman is her dear friend Petra. Petra decides to break up the relationship with Nick. Finally she finds a good job at the Drei Konige hotel reception. At this point she has a relationship with Jonas Munzing, the hotel director. Because of this situation, Thomas – her future ex-husband, as Jonas says – is extremely jealous. She feels so happy that she finds the courage to introduce Jonas to her family. Jule, Petra’s daughter, is a  brilliant girl; she attends University and easily falls in love, convincing herself that he is “the one”.  She lives a beautiful friendship with her ex-boyfriend, Hacki; she doesn’t realize that the guy has strong feelings for her and can’t stand to see her associating with  Marc, a family friend’s son. It seems as if Hacki has been adopted by the Jansens, because he comes and goes treating their house like home. The Jansens’ fridge is in danger with him because he devours the good meals cooked by Petra. Hacki suggests that Jule marry Kodjo in an exchange of interests because he needs a residence permit, and Jule and Hacki have to pay for the damage caused to Hacki’s taxi. Jule has to adapt to living with Kodjo, even if she realizes she is in love with Hacki. The ex-boyfriend meets her in secret, realizing his feelings for the girl, and being sorry to put her in this difficult situation, with the idea of the false marriage. Under the pretence of visiting her grandmother Johanna, he meets Jule at the Jansens’ against the will of Kodjo, who fears that someone has found out the truth.

Tanja, the second daughter, is in conflict with her husband because he can’t accept seeing her as an ambitious woman, and when she decides to go back to university, they have an argument. Tanja would like to adopt a kid, and while taking this important decision she finds a job at the orphanage. Alice, the dearest friend of Petra, has a greenhouse. It’s thanks to her that Marc, her lawyer’s son, finds his strong aspiration: to work at the greenhouse. They realize they have strong feelings for one another, but there’s a big age difference so they don’t find the courage to make a decision and admit the truth. Alice treats him badly, pushing him away and associating with Tillman, the musician at the Drei Konige hotel. She is finally abandoned by this man who wanted to take advantage of her money for his career as a musician. She realizes she is in love with Marc, but he is going to leave the town. He’s tired of this situation. They finally get clear about their feelings, even though Werner, Marc’s father, is worried that she could leave him again.

Johanna Thomas’ mother has strong amnesia, and she behaves in a strange manner. She treats Jule’s husband like a stranger even though she was at the wedding banquet only few days before.

Miriam has some discussions with his partner Thomas, because he complains she isn’t like his wife Petra, treating her as if she is irresponsible.

My life/Rote Rosen is located in the lovely Luneburg, among little lakes in the green and typical houses, in the north of Germany. It’s easy to perceive a peaceful life in a green oasis, where one can go for a walk or take a bicycle ride and picnic in the open air.
